About
This is an account of my time in Italy from September 2009 through June 2010. I was seventeen, angsty, and living in Avellino, which made for a less than idyllic scenario. I had left the suburban United States and its atmosphere of detached misery among the youth, only to move to an Italian suburb with an identical aura. And misery loves company. Needless to say while there's plenty of griping on this blog, there's also a lot of silliness and longing, as well as a good bit of friends and travel.
It's worth noting that over 3/5 of these entries were not written with the intent to be published; most came from the personal journal I kept and emails I sent to family and friends. This blog did exist, but I neglected to write often, preferring the more intimate (and portable) act of journaling. After I'd returned to the US I wanted a better way to remember and chronicle my experience, so I went back through everything I'd written, did some light (probably too light) editing and some major censorship (to keep out all the personal bits), and published them here under the dates they originally written.
