Geeking out in Salerno, among other things
It is becoming very cold here; I am a little surprised at how quickly the weather has changed-- I've never really experienced "autumn" before! I'm going to buy some gloves soon because my hands are always cold.
The cold makes bathing rather suckish. And I dread having to sit on the ice cold toilet! But I have to say, my host family's shower is amazing. It has an LCD screen which controls temperature, provides radio stations, changes the colors of the overhead lighting, and much, much more! This somewhat makes up for the fact that it's cold when I have to get in and out of the shower. Somewhat.
According to Martina, I've been talking in my sleep lately... in English, tragically. Fingers crossed, I'll be dreaming in Italian sometime soon.
Two days ago my friends and I got out of school early and took a bus to Salerno. It was beautiful to see the sea, and the weather was much warmer there than it is in the mountains! Salerno is more of an international city than Avellino is, as it gets quite a few tourists in the summer months due to the beach, so it had some English novels in one of its bookshops. I bought Pride and Prejudice (Which I am reading now), Daisy Miller and Other Stories by Henry James, and Wuthering Heights. I've made it my resolution to read as much classical English literature as I can; in the US, with so many options, other books usually pike my interest. Here, I read whatever I can get my hands on! It helps me get through the boredom of the still incomprehensible Italian language. Anyway, whilst in Salerno we entered a Gothic/Celtic/Dark/Medieval Fantasy shop known by the name of Asgard. They had a quite a bit of devil-worshipper gadgets and the like (*Prays dad isn't reading this*), and also a bunch of LOTR memorabilia, randomly. I wouldn't stop looking at the epic LOTR posters, and I practically had to be dragged out:D
It rained like crazy again today! I wish everyone back home could have seen it. It was like literal sheets of rain were coming down and pelting off the ground. Everyone arrived at school drenched. We all got to sit around the radiators for an hour or so until we dried off. Anyway, I came home cold and wet (it was a long walk), changed straight into my pajamas, and got on the computer to write this. And now I shall go finish up Pride and Prejudice before taking a nap.
